Vic: Speeding hoon's behaviour outrageous: Cameron

MELBOURNE, Jan 12 AAP - Police Minister Bob Cameron has described as outrageous the behaviour of a teenager caught speeding at more than 140km/h three weeks after getting his licence.

The 18-year-old had his car impounded after he was caught driving at 143km/h in an 80km zone about 3am (AEDT) on Monday.

Mr Cameron said his actions were "just outrageous", adding that there were too many hoons on Victorian roads.

"I'd have to use polite language and it would be you're a damn fool," Mr Cameron said of the driver.

Acting Premier Rob Hulls admitted to feeling invincible and doing some "pretty silly things" when he started driving at 18 but said a licence came with enormous responsibility and kids had to get the message.

"Kids, when they get their licence, often do think they're invincible and they're kidding themselves," he said.

"You will have idiots on the road, you will have responsible people on the road, it's absolutely crucial that we get as many of those idiots off the road as possible."
