Optus fined $110,000 for breaching Spam Act=3D2

An Optus spokeswoman has told AAP the incident which led to the $110,000 penalty related to one marketing campaign in 2007 which involved sending a text message.

"Optus has conducted a thorough review of its marketing training and approval processes to ensure that improved processes are in place to prevent problems of this nature re-occurring," she said.

The company says it takes its obligations under the Spam Act seriously to ensure material sent to customers is in accordance with the law.

Optus had fully cooperated with ACMA during the investigation and has issued apologies to customers that were affected, the spokeswoman said.
