SYDNEY, Jan 17 AAP - A 15-year-old boy allegedly assaulted a man and vandalised a bus after the driver refused to let him on board.

The youth allegedly attempted to board the bus on Victoria Road, Drummoyne, in Sydney's inner west, about 9.50pm (AEDT) on Thursday.

When the driver refused him because he did not have the fare, police say the youth got off the bus and threw a bottle at the windscreen, causing it to smash.

The driver was forced to stop the bus and a number of passengers were transferred to another bus.

Police say a short time later the boy confronted the driver and another member of staff.

He allegedly assaulted a 58-year-old man before he walked to a nearby car park.

He returned with a metal pole which he used to smash the side door of the bus.

On Friday police arrested the youth at a house in Moodie Street, Rozelle.

He was charged with two counts of malicious damage, intentionally throwing an object at a vehicle risking safety, common assault, affray, and being armed with intent to commit a serious indictable offence.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Bidura Childrens Court on 3 February 2009.
