MELBOURNE, Jan 25 AAP - Four young men have been hospitalised with stab wounds following an incident in Melbourne's north.

The men, aged in their late teens to early 20s, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries about 10.40am (AEDT) on Sunday after the stabbings in Woolhouse Street, Northcote.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman Ray Rowe said two of the men suffered wounds to their upper body and were in the street when paramedics arrived.

They were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The other two men where in a nearby house and were taken to the Austin Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Rowe could not elaborate on the mens' injuries or the circumstances of the stabbing.

"It seems a bit like some sort of fracas," he said.

A police spokeswoman said it was not clear whether the stabbings were the result of a domestic dispute, but all four victims were known to each other.
