The church welfare sector has given the thumbs up to the federal government's 42 billion dollar economic stimulus package .. saying it's well targeted.

Low and middle-income taxpayers .. eligible single-income households and drought-affected farmers will all receive a bonus of up to 950 dollars.

There's also a 950 dollar back-to-school bonus .. and a 6.7 billion dollar package for 20-thousand social housing units.

Anglicare Australia executive director KASY CHAMBERS says the government's package is well timed and targeted.

Catholic Social Services Australia executive director FRANK QUINLAN says the package is directed mostly at the nation's most vulnerable people.

But UnitingCare Australia's national director LIN HATFIELD Dodds is disappointed the package does not include more support for the unemployed.
