BRISBANE, Feb 4 AAP - Four tourists had to be rescued after floodwaters washed their campervan off a bridge in far north Queensland.

The tourists took refuge on the hood of the vehicle after it was washed into the flooded Eight Mile Creek at Conjuboy on Tuesday night.

The group, aged between 29 and 75, were stranded for about 90 minutes before police winched them to safety after being alerted to their plight by staff at a local roadhouse at about 11pm (AEST).

Other than suffering mild hypothermia, the tourists were uninjured, police said.
