SYDNEY, Feb 17 AAP - Four serving NSW police officers have been charged with perverting the course of justice and tampering with evidence.

The NSW Police Force said the charges relate to a search conducted by the officers in October last year.

The four officers are all based in the state's Southern Region, but the police force did not identify the station, or stations, involved.

However, the Professional Standards Command initiated an investigation after receiving information from within the Wagga Wagga Local Area Command.

As a result of the investigation, the four officers were on Tuesday charged and granted conditional bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on April 8.

The officers will be suspended with pay pending the outcome of the court proceedings, police said in a statement.
