Detectives are looking for the people who helped the girl when she was attacked close to a children's playground near Prestons Oval and Cooper Park at Engadine on January 23.

A teenaged boy has been charged, but police are keen to identify the passers-by who came to the girl's aid.

The boy has been charged with sexual assault, committing an act of indecency and inciting a person under 16 to commit an act of indecency. He is due to appear in Sydney Children's Court on Thursday.

Police have not released the age of either the girl or the teenaged boy.
