ASIA: Strong quake between Philippines, Indonesia: geologists

JAKARTA, March 16 AFP - A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck in the ocean between the Philippines and Indonesia, geologists say, but there have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The US Geological Survey said the epicentre of Monday's quake was about 296km south-southeast of General Santos in the Philippines.

The quake, which struck at 10.15pm on Monday (0115 AEDT Tuesday) was located around 35km below sea level.

It was followed around 10 minutes later by an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.0.

No tsunami warning was immediately issued.
