US: Astronauts take third and final spacewalk

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida, March 23 AP - Two astronauts have started the third and final spacewalk for shuttle Discovery's mission.

Joseph Acaba and Richard Arnold II emerged from the international space station late on Monday morning.

They will take another crack at deploying a jammed equipment storage platform.

Spacewalkers accidentally inserted a pin upside down on the platform on Saturday.

This time, the astronauts will pull with brute force to try to free up the mechanism and extend the platform all the way out.

On Sunday, the station and shuttle steered clear of space junk that had been projected to come dangerously close during Monday's spacewalk. It was the latest in a series of orbiting junk that has threatened the station.
