NSW: Rees apologises for Sydney CBD power outage

NATHAN REES has apologised for the blackout which plunged Sydney's CBD into peak-hour chaos.

The New South Wales premier has also ordered a review of the city's emergency warning system after revelations one third of the city's public address sirens are useless during power failures.

The blackout yesterday afternoon hit about 70 thousand homes and businesses and about 140 sets of traffic lights .. causing chaos on the roads.

Mr REES says it's not acceptable that 17 of the 49 speakers that make up the CBD warning system can't work during a power outage and says the review will include costings by the Roads and Traffic Authority for an uninterrupted power supply for the warning system.
