BRISBANE, April 1 AAP - A mother has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly drugging her two children and then trying to gas them.

The 34-year-old, of Mount Warren Park south of Brisbane, allegedly gave her children prescription drugs to put them into a heavy sleep in a bedroom, before attempting to kill them with gas from a cylinder, Nine News has reported.

Authorities were alerted to the incident on Monday night when the woman's ex-husband visited.

Neighbours said the woman had been acting strangely and had recently feared losing her job.

Her son, aged seven, and daughter, nine, were taken to Logan Hospital and were in a stable condition.

The woman has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of stupefying a person to commit an indictable offence.

She will face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon.
