SYDNEY, April 11 AAP - A woman knocked unconscious after falling from a horse and slamming into a tree in Sydney's outer north-west has been airlifted to hospital.

The 41-year-old woman was riding her horse on an isolated trail with a group of endurance riders in Scheyville National Park, Maraylya, just after 10am (AEST) on Saturday when she fell and hit a tree.

The woman remained unconscious for about three minutes as her husband dialled the emergency services number triple zero, NRMA CareFlight director Ian Badham told AAP.

"The problem was they had no idea where they were in the park," he said.

It took two police trail riders and a police helicopter about half an hour to locate the woman once they reached the park.

She was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition with head and shoulder injuries.

She has also possibly fractured her ribs.
