NSW: NSW push to stop bikies running companies

15 Apr 2009 2:30 AM

Bikie gang members would be prevented from holding company directorships under a push by the NSW government to change federal legislation.

The result would prevent gangs from laundering profits from organised crime and drug running and hiding behind legitimate businesses to explain expensive cars and houses.

Bikies deemed to be part of a crime group under NSW legislation passed a fortnight ago would be disqualified from controlling companies anywhere in Australia.

The state government's proposed changes to the Corporations Act would include directors .. company secretaries and other officers.

Premier NATHAN REESE has told News Limited it's crucial to prevent outlaw motorcycle gangs from forming companies and to function as legitimate businesses .. to stop them committing crime.
