NSW: Two police injured during arrest scuffle

SYDNEY, April 20 AAP - Two Sydney policemen suffered facial injuries while trying to arrest a man at the scene of a violent domestic dispute.

The officers were hurt as they tried to arrest the man following a dispute that left a woman, 58, with facial injuries and a man, 61, unconscious.

"Police attempted to arrest a 30-year-old man at the scene, however the man allegedly resisted arrest," police said in a statement.

"As a result two police officers were injured in the ensuing struggle."

One officer suffered a split chin during the incident on Monday morning, and the other a cut below his right eye. The 30-year-old man suffered a broken arm.

He was arrested at the property in Awatea Road at St Ives, in Sydney's north.

All of the injured were taken to Hornsby Hospital, where the woman remains in a serious condition.

The police were released after treatment.
