US: Windows 7 to make public debut May 5

Microsoft says it's on the verge of releasing its next-generation Windows 7 .. to replace the much criticised Vista.
The nearly-final version of Windows 7 will be released today .. allowing companies to begin tailoring software or hardware to the operating system.
It features compatibility with touch-screen computer controls and is designed to work with earlier-generation Windows XP.
It comes after critics lambasted Vista for being too complex .. and not being compatible with older software programs.
