NSW: Evacuations begin as QLD storms bear down on NSW

Emergency services and police have begun evacuations in northern New South Wales .. as storms that dumped up to 300 millimetres of rain in Brisbane and the Gold Coast move south.

The ABC reports that 300 people in the Murwillumbah area have been told to leave their homes as a precautionary measure .. as authorities fear flood waters could cut access .. power and sanitation.

Emergency crews are on flood watch after forecasts of heavy rainfalls for the northeast of the state today and tomorrow.

The weather bureau's issued flood warnings for the Tweed and Brunswick rivers and a separate flood watch for other coastal rivers from the Queensland border to Nambucca.

In the Chinderah area ten properties have been evacuated and another 550 people in the area have been isolated by flood waters.
