21 May 2009 3:09 PM

The New South Wales government has set up two evacuation centres in the state's north coast as severe weather lashes the area.

Heavy rain and flooding has already forced the closure of 200 schools in the region and the weather bureau is predicting more to come.

Community Services Minister LINDA BURNEY says evacuation centres have been set up at Southern Cross University in Lismore and at the Ocean Shores Golf Club in Ocean Shores.

Meanwhile .. the New South Wales Fire Brigades has sent 13 fire engines and 60 firefighters to help with any flood or storm recovery work.
