SYDNEY, May 26 AAP - The anonymous author of a letter to police about the suspicious disappearance of a NSW woman has been urged to contact detectives.

Judith Ann Young from Gunningbland, west of Parkes in the state's central west, was 42 when she was reported missing in 2001.

But police believe she may have disappeared as early as December 1999, and may have been the victim of foul play.

On Monday, police received an anonymous letter relating to her disappearance.

Detectives are now hoping to speak to the author of the letter that was sent to Parkes police station.

Information contained in the letter may be of significance to the investigation into her disappearance, a police spokeswoman said.

The author of the letter can remain anonymous if they contact detectives in Parkes on (02) 6862 9977 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
