PERTH, June 18 AAP - Police have laid charges over a road rage incident which allegedly led to man being run over by a four-wheel-drive.

Police said the road rage victim faces four bouts of surgery after being struck by the car following a minor traffic incident at Heathridge, in Perth's north, about 6pm (WST) on Wednesday.

A verbal altercation had escalated after the incident at an intersection, police spokesman Graham Clifford said.

"The 57-year-old man was discovered several minutes after the argument unconscious and bleeding on the road verge," Sergeant Clifford said.

"We believe he has been run over by a Toyota Hilux vehicle during the dispute."

The man suffered life-threatening injuries including broken ribs and a broken pelvis.

His stepdaughter Michelle said he also had a broken wrist and a fractured knee, while his thigh bone was completely shattered.

"At the moment he's going for four operations ..." Michelle told The West Australian.

"He's in such a bad way I can't believe it."

Police said they had arrested a later charged a 27-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He is charged with committing acts causing grievous bodily harm and traffic offences.

The man was taken into custody and is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday.
