TEHRAN, June 25 AFP - Eight members of Iran's Basij militia have been killed in bloody clashes triggered by this month's disputed presidential election, the state-owned English-language channel Press TV said on its website on Thursday.

The report, quoting unnamed Iranian officials, said 20 people, including the eight Basij militiamen, were killed during the unrest.

It said the militiamen had died from gunshot wounds.

State media has previously reported that 17 civilians had been killed.

If the deaths of the eight militiamen are included, then according to an AFP tally based on state media reports, at least 25 people have been slain in the violence unleashed in Tehran.
