SYDNEY, July 4 AAP - The body of a man has been found inside a unit after firefighters brought a blaze under control at the property at Wyong on the NSW central coast.

Police and fire brigades were called to the fire at a unit block on Hargrave St at about 1.30am (AEST) on Saturday.

They found the front bedroom of the ground floor unit well alight.

Police tried to get into the unit by smashing through the front lounge room window but were forced back by the flames.

Firefighters entered the unit and brought the blaze under control, while all residents of the other 11 units were evacuated.

The body of a man, believed to be a 53-year-old resident, was found inside the unit.

Police from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command have established a crime scene and are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Early investigations indicate the fire was not suspicious and all residents were allowed back into their homes.
