US: Obama calls for urgent Mideast peace talks

NEW YORK, Sept 22 AFP - US President Barack Obama has urged Israelis and Palestinians to work with a "sense of urgency" towards peace talks and said final status negotiations must begin soon.
"Success depends on all sides acting with a sense of urgency," Obama said as he went into landmark three-way talks in New York on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas.
"It is past time to start talking about negotiations." Final status negotiations "must begin and begin soon," he said.
