Police will target rebel drivers this long weekend .. with some 100 unmarked vehicles on patrol across New South Wales to fight a rising road toll.
Double demerit points will be imposed from midnight tonight (AEST) until midnight Monday for speeding and seatbelt offences.
Transport Minister DAVID CAMPBELL says the message from Operation Slowdown is very clear.
He says motorists need to cut their speed and arrive at their destination alive .. rather than in the back of an ambulance or worse.
The state's road toll stands at 350 .. 74 more than the same period last year.
Assistant Commissioner JOHN HARTLEY says a cold and wet weekend is forecast .. so drivers should expect slippery roads and poor visibility.
