Constable dismissed over drink-driving

BRISBANE, March 22 AAP - A constable convicted of driving more than four times over the legal alcohol limit has become the first to be dismissed under new Queensland Police Service (QPS) rules.

The constable was convicted of drink-driving in 2009, recording a blood alcohol reading of 0.235 per cent.

He was off-duty and driving his private vehicle when he was intercepted on the Sunshine Coast Motorway in the early hours of July 19 last year.

He was immediately stood down from operational duties.

Police said in a statement on Monday the 30-year-old constable had been dismissed as part of the QPS' disciplinary process.
