NSW: Double murder in Sydney's west, police say

07 May 2009 2:15 PM

SYDNEY, May 7 AAP - Two men found dead in a Sydney house may have been the victims of a double murder, police say.

The men, relatives aged in their 50s, were found dead at the Goodsir Street property in Rozelle about 9.30am (AEDT) on Thursday.

Police were notified after a friend of one of the men went to the house and saw a body lying inside.

He forced his way into the house, discovered the second body and called for assistance.

Detective Inspector Peter Bailey said it was not clear yet how they died.

"On arrival it appeared to police that the men had died of violent deaths. At this stage investigations are still continuing," he told reporters.

"It's being treated as a double homicide and that will be the situation until the crime scene examination is concluded."

However, Det Insp Bailey said he could not rule out murder-suicide as the cause of the deaths.

"It could be both those avenues (double murder or murder suicide) but we are treating it at its highest level - double homicide."

The street has been cordoned off as forensic teams scour the scene.

Police are asking for anyone with information relating to the men's deaths to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
