NSW: Family seek compensation after balcony death

SYDNEY, Nov 2 AAP - The NSW government will be asked to pay compensation tothe family of the 18-year-old Chinese student who died after falling from a Sydney unit balcony last weekend.

The lawyer acting for the student's mother and stepfather says they'll be asking for the maximum compensation of50,000 to help pay for counselling and support services, The Sunday Telegraph newspaper reports.

The young woman was among four people who were allegedly sexually assaultedat the hands of a knife-wielding man in Waterloo last Sunday afternoon.

She died and her 19-year-old boyfriend suffered serious spinal injuries when they fell while trying to escape the assault.

Police arrested a 26-year-old man in Redfern last week and charged him withmore than 20 offences including murder and sexual assault.
