NSW: Man charged with drink driving after fatal crash

SYDNEY, Nov 6 AAP - A man has been charged with drink-driving following a crash between a car and a van that killed a four-year-old girl in Sydney's west.

The girl was travelling with a man, a woman and a two year-old child when their car and the van collided on Blacktown Road, Londonderry, about 2.30pm (AEDT) yesterday.

The girl, who had been sitting in the back seat of the car, suffered serious head and arm injuries and was treated by an NRMA CareFlight doctor and ambulance paramedics before being flown to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Police say she died in hospital a couple of hours later.

The car's driver, a 33-year-old man from Emerton, suffered a broken arm andwas taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment.

The 21-year-old woman in the front passenger seat of the car and the two-year-old girl, who had been sitting with the four-year-old in the back sea, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the van, a 48-year-old Kurrajong man, tested positive for alcohol at the scene.

He was charged at Windsor Police Station with a mid-range blood alcohol level and granted conditional bail to appear at Windsor Local Court on November 27.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.
