Aust dollar closes slightly lower after roller-coaster 24 hours

The Australian dollar has closed lower after a roller-coaster 24 hours where it traded in 3.5-US cent range.
The Australian dollar briefly touchedUS0.6900 last night .. but hit $US0.6545 .. its lowest level since October 30 .. during today's local session.
But a late afternoon surge pushed the unit back aboveUS0.6700 and almost where it was at yesterday's close.
At 1700 AEDT .. the Australian dollar was trading atUS0.670107 .. down from yesterday's close ofUS0.672833.
During the day local session .. the unit traded between a low ofUS0.6545 and a high ofUS0.6733.
The Australian dollar fell sharply fromUS0.6900 after the BoE slashed official interest rates by 150 basis points to three per cent overnight.

At 1600 AEDT, the Reserve Bank of Australia's trade weighted index (TWI) was at 55.3, up from yesterday's close of 55.2.
