PAC: 'Ugly' NZ campaign wraps up amid evidence of desperation

08 Nov 2008 2:37 AM

New Zealanders decide the fate of Prime Minister HELEN CLARK today .. after an election campaign branded ugly by global standards.

The latest polls show CLARK .. whose Labour government has been in power for nine years .. is fighting for her political life.

She's up against National Party leader JOHN KEY .. and with the wind of change having swept across the United States .. elevating BARACK OBAMA to the presidency .. KEY is talking up the need for a fresh page and a new start.

If he can win enough votes and get the support of minor parties .. he'll inherit a bag of problems that have much in common with those facing OBAMA ..mostly related to the economy.
