NSW: Five would-be terrorists prepared for violent jihad- court 12 Nov 2008 2:40 AM

Prosecutors will continue their case today against five men accused of planning a terrorist attack in Australia.

Prosecutor RICHARD MAIDMENT opened the crown's case yesterday in the New South Wales supreme court and said evidence suggests the group was driven by extremist beliefs to attack the Australian public.

Mr MAIDMENT told the court .. the men were motivated by Australia's participation in conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan .. which they perceived as acts of aggression against the wider Muslim community.

KHALED CHEIKHO .. MOUSTAFA CHEIKHO .. MOHAMED ALI ELOMAR .. ABDUL RAKIB HASAN and MOHAMMED OMAR JAMAL have each pleaded not guilty to conspiring to commit a terrorist act or acts.
