ASIA: Burmese sentences journalist to 2 years in prison

A journalist has been sentenced to two years in prison for reporting on an anti-government protest during the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis.

Colleagues of EIN KHAING OO says she's been sentenced for disturbing tranquility.

They say she was arrested in June for covering a protest over the lack of government relief following the cyclone .. she reporting for the Eco Vision magazine at the time.

The case follows a string of recent long prison sentences given to critics of the ruling junta.

At least 50 opposition activists .. writers .. musicians and Buddhist monkshave been sentenced in the last week.

The human rights group Amnesty International says Burma now has more than two thousand political prisoners .. including Nobel Peace Prize laureate AUNG SAN SUU KYI.
