Aust dollar higher at noon

The Australian dollar was higher at noon .. ahead of speeches by two senior Reserve Bank officials.

At midday (AEDT) it was trading at around 64.65 US cents .. up marginally from yesterday's close of 64.60 and this morning's local open of 64.43.

A roaring finish on Wall Street helped spur demand for riskier assets .. and lifted the Aussie above 65 US cents .. but it soon fell back toward the 64.50 mark.

CMC Markets FX dealer TIM WATERER says separate speeches on the economy by the Reserve Bank governor and assistant governor this afternoon and tonightare unlikely to shed further light on official interest rate movements .. but they will be watched closely.
