NSW: Elderly man wanted after Sydney shooting

SYDNEY, Nov 22 AAP - Police are hunting a tattooed 81-year-old man aftera young man was shot in a central Sydney unit.

Officers were called to a unit in Belvoir Street, Surry Hills, at around 7.15pm (AEDT) on Friday night where they found a 26-year-old man suffering from a gun shot wound to his lower abdomen.

The man was taken by ambulance to St Vincents Hospital were he underwent surgery and remains in a serious but stable condition, police said.

Investigations into the shooting are continuing, with police wishing to speak to a man who they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.

The man is described as being 81-years-old, of whiteEuropean appearance, approximately 160-170cm tall and of a large build.

He has tattoos of a sailing ship and two clasped hands on one forearm and atattoo of a heart and dagger on the other forearm.

Police believe that the man may be armed with a handgun and members of the public are urged not to approach him.
