Vic: Police blitz nabs irresponsible drivers
22 Nov 2008 7:56 AMMELBOURNE, Nov 22 AAP - Victoria police have caught almost 50 drink drivers on the second day of a drink and drug driving blitz on Melbourne's streets.
Police conducted 9,300 blood alcohol tests around Melbourne on Friday and nabbed 49 people for drink driving.
The highest reading was 0.183 by man in St Kilda.
Among other people stopped by police was a learner motor cyclist with a reading of 0.106, a man caught over the limit for the fifth time and a P-platedriver facing his second drink driving offence.
Glen Waverley police nabbed a 29-year-old woman for drink driving with her three children in the back seat of the car.
Operation RAID will run until December 13 and is specifically timed to target motorists in the lead up to the busy holiday period.
Inspector Greg Parr said drivers breaking the law would be caught.
"It is extremely disappointing that even after all the publicity about thisoperation that drivers still aren't acting responsibly," he said.
"If this is the case and they will not act responsibly then police will ensure they are detected and taken off the road."
