NSW: Girl airlifted to hospital after riding accident
22 Nov 2008 7:52 PMSYDNEY, Nov 22 AAP - A teenage girl is in an induced coma after being crushed by her horse during an equestrian event.
The 14-year-old girl, from Berrima in the Southern Highlands, south of Sydney, suffered a fractured skull when her horse went down and rolled on her while she was competing at Sutton Forest on Saturday afternoon.
NRMA Careflight said the girl was competing at Sutton Forest.
She was unconscious for 35 minutes before paramedics arrived on the scene at 4.45pm (AEDT).
She was flown to Sydney's Westmead Children's Hospital and is in an inducedcoma and in a serious but stable condition.
The girl's riding helmet saved her from more serious injuries, a Careflightspokesman said.
