NSW: Irish man to have face surgery after glassing
23 Nov 2008 12:18 PMSYDNEY, Nov 23 AAP - An Irish national will undergo surgery after being glassed in the face at a pub in Sydney's inner west, police say.
Emergency services were called to Five Dock Hotel off Parramatta Road shortly after 11pm (AEDT) on Saturday night.
"Two men aged 27 and 29 had been drinking for some time when security officers told the men they should leave," police said in a statement.
"As the two men, both Irish nationals, had a discussion about leaving the premises ... the older man was struck in the face with a spirit glass causing a deep laceration."
The injured man was treated at the pub and then taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he will undergo surgery, police said.
The younger man, who lives in Homebush, tried to leave the pub after theincident but was detained by security staff.
He was later charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and has been granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on December 2.
