SYDNEY, Nov 27 AAP - Police are working to free four environmental activists who have locked themselves to coal conveyer belts at a power station on the NSW Central Coast.
The four protesters disrupted operations at the Munmorah power station from about 7am (AEDT) on Thursday, locking themselves to the belts using metal pipes.
Around 20 activists from Friends of the Earth and the Australian Student Environment Network also protested outside the facility.
The protest is part of a national campaign of rolling action ahead of the UN climate change meeting in Poland later this week.
Spokeswoman Holly Creenaune said police rescue personnel were working on unlocking the demonstrators.
She said no one had been arrested.
"The protests highlight the need to transition from coal fired power," she said.
