SYDNEY, Nov 29 AAP - Frontline services in NSW, including health and education, will receive a $5 billion injection over the next five years.
Premier Nathan Rees made the announcement at the conclusion of the Council of Australian Government's negotiations in Canberra on Saturday.
He said the $5 billion amount is NSW's share of the federal government's $15.1 billion COAG reform package.
"This is $5 billion injection into health services, education, disability services, housing, and training and apprenticeships," Mr Rees said in a statement.
Mr Rees said COAG negotiations on Saturday signalled "a new era in federal-state cooperation".
"This is an important step in correcting the imbalances of the past, and we look forward to an ongoing cooperative relationship with the commonwealth."
Mr Rees added NSW would continue to face significant budgetary challenges, "particularly in meeting the growing demand pressures for health services".
