01 Dec 2008 12:41 PM
Australian and American police say they've smashed a multi-national drug cartel and seized 16 million dollars worth of cocaine destined for Melbourne.
Three Mexicans are due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today charged with attempting to import 65 kilos of cocaine in containers of cement flower pots and statues.
The AFP says the cocaine originated in South America and was shipped through the US to Australia.
They say more arrests are expected as they suspect there's an Australian end to the syndicate.
Cocaine sells for up to 180 thousand dollars a kilo wholesale .. and about 350 dollars a gram on the streets.
