Wall Street tumbles as rally falters

US stocks have fallen deep in the red .. as traders locked in gains from a stunning series of rallies in the past week .. and fresh recession jitters emerged.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 410.19 points .. or 4.65 per cent .. to 8,418.85 at 3.05am (AEDT) .. after five winning sessions.
The Nasdaq shed 83.68 points .. or 5.45 per cent .. to 1,451.89 .. and the broad-market Standard and Poor's 500 index lost 49.20 points .. or 5.49 per cent .. to 847.04.
A pullback was expected after a huge snapback rally over the past several sessions.
