NSW: Building workers march in Sydney in protest at commission
02 Dec 2008 1:33 PM
Hundreds of union protesters have marched through central Sydney .. blocking lunchtime traffic and calling for the federal government to abolish the Australian Building and Construction Commission.
Speakers at the noisy rally called on the government to keep its election promise of maintaining decent rights for workers.
RUSS COLLESON .. the NSW secretary of the Australian Workers Union .. says terrorists have more rights than building workers.
He says under the ABCC anyone who wants to express a point of view can be fined or face a jail sentence .. and the legislation's designed to destroy the union movement.
Similar rallies are being held in Newcastle and Wollongong .. as well as every state capital.
