10 Dec 2008 12:55 PM
A man who admitted buying stolen military rocket launchers will spend at least the next year in jail.
TAHA ABDUL-RAHMAN .. from Leumeah in south-west Sydney .. had pleaded guilty to buying seven rocket launchers on two separate occasions from an associate of former army captain SHANE DELLA-VEDOVA.
In sentencing the 30-year-old father of two in the NSW District Court today .. Justice MARK MARIEN said ABDUL-RAHMAN was the middle man who sold one of the rocket launchers to a gang leader with terrorist links.
The rest of the rocket launchers are still missing .. which Justice MARIEN said poses an ongoing security risk to the whole community.
ABDUL-RAHMAN will spend a maximum of three years and six months in jail.
He'll be eligible for release in December 2009 because of time already spent in custody.
