NSW: Second prison inmate charged over drug syndicate: Police

SYDNEY, Dec 10 AAP - A second NSW prison inmate has been charged over an alleged drug-trafficking syndicate for which notorious prisoner Bassam Hamzy is accused of coordinating.

Police say a 31-year-old man at Lithgow Correctional Facility was charged on Wednesday with two offences relating to an alleged operation to move illicit drugs between Sydney and Melbourne.

The inmate was transferred from the facility to Lithgow Police Station where he was questioned by Strike Force Skelton detectives.

He was charged by detectives from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad with one count of indictable drug supply and one count of participating in a criminal group.

He will face Penrith Local Court on Thursday via video-link.

Hamzy and the second prisoner as well as eight others have been charged over the alleged syndicate.
