NSW: Woman armed with knives cuts officer on the head: Police

SYDNEY, Dec 14 AAP -A 55-year-old year-old woman who resisted attempts to subdue her with capsicum spray has been charged over an incident at Foster police station on the NSW mid-north coast.

The woman allegedly phoned Forster police from a public call box outside the station about 11.30pm (AEST)on Saturday.

She told officers she was armed with two 30cm knifes and threatened to harm herself first and then the police.

Officers were confronted by the woman outside the station and she was hit with capsicum spray, but it did not work. One of the policemen then struck her with a baton.

A scuffle ensued during which the woman allegedly lunged at a senior constable with a knife, cutting him on the top of his head.

The woman was finally subdued and later charged with four counts of assaulting police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and being armed with intent.

She was refused bail and was due to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court later on Sunday.

The injured officer was treated by paramedics.
