MELBOURNE, Dec 19 AAP - A heroin addict who bashed and tried to strangle his grandmother for $60 has been jailed for four and a half years.
Brett Andrew Dolan, 36, attacked his grandmother Patricia Mary Inglis, 79, as she lay in her bed in her Braybrook home in March.
He grabbed her by the legs and dragged her down the bed before picking her up and roughly throwing her down, the Victorian Supreme Court was told.
He then hit her with a pillow and attempted to strangle her.
In sentencing Dolan, Justice Elizabeth Curtain said it was a cowardly assault on an elderly person who had taken him in to live with her.
She ordered Dolan serve a non-parole period of two years.
