MELBOURNE, Dec 22 AAP - Pubs and clubs across regional Victoria will be targeted in a massive police crackdown on alcohol-fuelled behaviour and violence over the Christmas holiday.
Scores of officers will visit hotels and pubs in towns and cities including Bendigo, Shepparton, Mildura and Wodonga as well as Phillip Island to ensure they are operating within the law.
Venues in Melbourne's outer suburbs, including Mornington and Werribee as well as Geelong, will also be targeted as part of Summer Blitz.
Last Christmas, police visited as many as 1,000 venues while more than 80 people were arrested for assaults, drink-driving and criminal damage while several venues also copped penalty notices for under-age patronage.
