EUR: Blood from mosquito traps Finnish suspect
23 Dec 2008 12:28 AM
Police in Finland believe they've caught a car thief .. thanks to a DNA sample taken from a sample of his blood found inside a mosquito.
Last June a car was stolen in Lapua .. about 380 kilometres north of Helsinki .. and was soon found near a railway station about 25 kilometres from where it was stolen.
Police say an inspection of the car found a mosquito which was sent to the laboratory for testing, and which revealed the blood belonged to a man in the police registers.
The suspect insists he did not steal the car .. saying he'd hitchhiked .. and was given a lift by a man driving the car.
A prosecutor will decide if the evidence is solid enough for charges to be pressed.
