NSW: Man shot in face and woman abducted in the Hunter

SYDNEY, Dec 24 AAP - A man has been shot in the face and his female companion abducted by a masked man in NSW's Hunter region.
About 10.45pm (AEDT) on Tuesday, a 32-year-old Rutherford man was walking along Wollombi Road in Farley with a 25-year-old Rutherford woman when a white four-wheel-drive stopped behind them.
A man wearing all black, a balaclava, dark sunglasses and black gloves got out of the car and spoke to the pair, police said.
A number of shots were fired and the Rutherford man was shot in the face.
The attacker then ordered the woman into the 4WD where she was driven some distance from the scene.
The car stopped on Regiment Road at Rutherford where the woman was pushed out onto the roadway.
She ran to a family home nearby, where she suffered an epileptic seizure before being taken to Maitland Hospital.
The injured man was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he was in a stable condition on Wednesday.
Central Hunter detectives are appealing for public help as they investigate the attack and ar urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
