SA: Perth man dies after being hit twice in Adelaide

ADELAIDE, Dec 24 AAP - A 26-year-old Perth man, struck by two cars while crossing a road in Adelaide, has died in hospital.

He was South Australia's first road fatality of the Christmas holiday period.

Police said the victim, who was in Adelaide on business, was crossing a road in the city's north just after midnight (CDST) on Tuesday when he was hit by a car.

Almost immediately a second vehicle ran over him as he lay on the road.

He suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition and died late on Tuesday.

Inspector Tony Crameri said the driver of the first vehicle that hit the man, a 23-year-old women, stopped at the scene and was interviewed by police.

But the other vehicle failed to stop.

SA's road toll for 2008 is 99, 26 fewer than at the same time last year.
